Aquí explican cómo quedaron los votos en la crítica de New York:

Ayer conocimos el palmarés de los premios de la crítica de Nueva York, donde "American Hustle" obtuvo el galardón a la mejor película del año. Hoy, a través de Jeff Wells en Hollywood-Elsewhere, ya conocemos minuciosamente cómo fue esa votación. Según cuenta una fuente a Wells, el premio de mejor película se debatió siempre entre "American Hustle" y "12 years a slave". La ganadora se decidió en un duelo directo entre ambas películas. "Inside Llewyn Davis" fue una fuerte contendiente en este y otros apartados, pero no contó con el apoyo suficiente. "The wolf of Wall Street" no compitió con fuerza en ninguna categoría.

Mejor Actriz de Reparto se desarrolló en tres votaciones y tuvo como claras favoritas a Jennifer Lawrence y Lupita Nyong'o. También hubo algún voto para June Squibb ("Nebraska"), pero de forma importante. En mejor director, los más votados fueron Steve McQueen, David O'Russell, Alfonso Cuarón y los hermanos Coen. Finalmente, fue un McQueen vs. Russell en el que el venció el cineasta británico en la cuarta votación.

Según Wells, mejor actriz se decantó de forma mayoritaria para Cate Blanchett, aunque también hubo votos para Adèle Exarchopoulos y Amy Adams. Mejor actor se decidió en una segunda votación. La mayor parte de los votos fueron para Robert Redford y Chiweitel Ejiofor, aunque también hubo moderados apoyos para Oscar Isaac, Bruce Dern y Matthew McConaughey. En mejor actor secundario, Jared Leto se impuso en la segunda votación y sus competidores más cercanos fueron Michael Fassbender ("12 years a slave") y James Franco ("Spring Breakers"). Jonah Hill ("The wolf of Wall Street") tuvo un par de votos, pero apenas resistió el combate.

Por último, en mejor guión el runner-up fue "Before Midnight", seguido de "Her" e "Inside Llewyn Davis". En fotografía, "Inside Llewyn Davis" venció con rotundidad, aunque también hubo votos para "Gravity" y "Nebraska".

El largometraje de Jehane Noujaim se ha impuesto a grandes favoritas como "The act of killing", "Blackfish" o "Stories we tell", que también eran candidatas. "The Square", ganadora del premio del público en la categoría documental del Festival Internacional de Cine de Toronto de 2013 y una de las 15 preseleccionadas para competir este año por el Oscar, es una cinta épica que relata el trasfondo de la revolución egipcia a través de los ojos de jóvenes activistas que, en los últimos dos años, lucharon por construir una mejor nación.
